Gloomy, an abandoned little bear, is rescued by Pitty (the little boy). At first, he is cute and cuddly, but becomes more wild as he grows up. Since bears do not become attached to people like dogs by nature, Gloomy attacks Pitty even though he is the owner. So Gloomy has blood on him from biting and/or scratching Pitty. The Gloomy with blood is called Chax Colony Edition.

Falling into the genre of kawaii noir or Gothic ka-waii, Gloomy - The naughty grizzly (a mostly pink bear, sometimes adorned with blood) was created by Mori Chack, a Japanese graphic designer, who was born in Sakai, Osaka, Japan.

Mori explains the history of Gloomy in this video - Watch now

When I first encountered Gloomy almost 15 years ago, I fell in love Mori's vision, the dark back-story and execution of available artwork. I went looking for an anime but only found a few seconds of flash animations on Mori's website. Researching further I found out this was only at the story stage. A dark natural, truthful, mythical story with a growing amount of high quality merchandise behind it.

I thought..."Take my money, I needed Gloomy in
my life!
" I remain a collector to this day.

Sparky's outlook for todays fan art is Gloomy

Being surrounded by lots of Gloomy bear paraphernalia collected over the past years I began to imagine a growing world of scenarios in which Gloomy bear and Pitty might appear. With over 20 years of mostly self taught graphic design knowledge combined with a relevant insight of illustration techniques I embarked on bringing these visions into digital reality. The following artworks are not for sale! They were created in the spirit of creating fan art and my purpose of showing them is to broaden the knowledge about Japanese illustration, Kawaii, Gloomy bear and of course to showcase the wonderful design talents of the creator Mori Chack.
